Dr John Gall is a registered Specialist in Forensic and Legal Medicine and independent Consultant Forensic Physician with almost 30 years of active clinical practice in both forensic and occupational medicine. He is a Medical Examiner within the NHS and provides expert medico-legal services to a wide range of clients including:

Dr Gall is based in the United Kingdom, with extensive experience providing services both nationally and internationally, particularly across Australasia, New Zealand, and South-east Asia.

Professional Background

John originally qualified as a biochemist and completed a PhD in pathology at the University of Melbourne before obtaining his medical degree in 1989. His postgraduate training focused on forensic pathology and clinical forensic medicine, with subspecialist interests in:

He has a particular expertise in child abuse and neglect, having served for 17 years as a Senior Consultant/Staff Specialist in the Victorian Paediatric Forensic Medical Service, Monash Medical Centre, and the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne. He was also Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne’s Department of Paediatrics until October 2024.

John has extensive experience giving expert evidence at all court levels and in various jurisdictions, including:

He has also developed and delivered workshops teaching fellow professionals how to write high-quality medico-legal reports and deliver effective courtroom evidence.

He has a long-standing commitment to academic teaching, contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate education in medicine and law. Notably, he co-developed and taught the subject Custodial Medicine in Monash University’s Graduate Diploma/Master of Forensic Medicine, and created a continuing education program in forensic medicine published quarterly in the Journal of Forensic and Legal Medicine.
